About the Safeguarding Children Training Course
This Safeguarding Children Training Course is for all individuals who work with children, in either an employed or voluntary capacity. Through engaging and interactive content, it explains what safeguarding is, why it is so important, and how to protect yourself as well as the children you work with.
Although most children are brought up in a loving and nurturing environment, and grow up to lead happy lives, the subject of safeguarding children needs to be considered by those working with children in order to better protect those children that need it most.
The course explores the different risk factors when working with to children, identifies the types of abuse children may suffer, and explains how to recognise the signs of abuse and the steps you should take to protect the children in your care. Legislation and guidance are provided and explained.
Aims of the course
The aim of the Safeguarding Children Online Training is to provide extensive and detailed knowledge about the safeguarding of children, and to define key terminology and legislation relating to safeguarding and protecting children. The course makes sure that you gain a thorough understanding of the importance of safeguarding and your personal responsibilities.
Who is this online training course for?
This course is for anyone who has a duty of care for or comes into contact with children in the course of their work. This can include (but is not limited to) those in the education sector, sport industry, social workers, medical staff and many others.
Course content
Throughout this training course, you will be fully briefed on the relevant documentation and record-keeping that you must undertake.
1What is Safeguarding?
The course opens by explaining what Safeguarding is and why it is important. You’ll hear some key definitions, facts and figures, and learn more about who is responsible for safeguarding.
2Types of Abuse
This chapter introduces introduces the different types of childhood abuse and looks at who may carry it out, why children may not tell and the different forms abusive behaviour may take. You’ll hear about physical abuse and bullying, cyber-bullying, emotional and psychological abuse, neglect and sexual abuse. Some users may find this section triggering or upsetting. Please discuss this with your line manager and take the appropriate self-care and debriefing steps where necessary.
3How to recognise signs of abuse
You’ll learn about your personal and professional responsibility and duty and find out the physical signs to look out for that may indicate abuse is occuring. You’ll find out about the behavioural changes children may display, and other factors your should be aware of.
4What to do if you suspect abuse
This chapter look at the common reactions you may experience if faced with a potentially abused child and explains reluctance and stereotypes. The chapter compassionately explains how to raise your concerns and looks at how to identify the perceived level of risk.
You’ll also explore the potential implications of inaction, the self-care mantra, and find out how to use your listening and observation skills if a child makes a disclosure. Do’s and Don’t are covered at the end of this chapter to help you feel more confident if faced with a disclosure situation.
5Safeguarding Legislation
This chapter offers information about the legislation, best practice and legal requirements relating to safeguarding.
You’ll learn about The Children Acts (1989 & 2004), Every Child Matters, The ‘Helping Children Achieve More’ Strategy, organisational lines of accountability, United Nations Convention on the Rights of A Child (1989), Data Protection Act (1998), Protection of Freedoms Act (2012), DBS Checks and Government Best Practice Guides.
6Assessment
To complete this course and obtain your certificate, you’ll complete a short assessment comprising of a series of true or false questions to help you reflect on what you have learned and to consolidate your knowledge.

Modules are delivered via our online learning platform, Activbase or available in alternative formats for use on a customer’s own Learning Management System (LMS). Once payment has been received, you will be sent an email from RealSense confirming your purchase followed by a separate email from our Activbase Learning Platform with details on how to access your course(s). Access is available 24/7 for the duration of your license. Customers requiring a different course format e.g. SCORM for use on their own LMS, please contact us with your requirements.

Safeguarding Children Training
Upon successful completion, a certificate of achievement is available and or automatically added to a learner’s digital record.
Digital certificate(s) – print, download, store
A certificate includes the learner’s name, course title, completion score / result, completion date and any marks of approval, accreditation authorities, and or distribution partners. It can be downloaded, stored or printed.
Learning records
When using our platform Activbase, learning records are available 24/7 for review, tracking progress and access to certificates. Records contain details of sessions including progress, attempts and results. This and additional data such as associated CPD, standards and qualifications are logged and available for information insights and management reporting – a powerful resource for tracking compliance as well as monitoring learning pathways.

Records and certificates - Is the course accredited? What if i fail? Can I download my certificate?
Q: Is the course accredited?
Most of our courses are accredited by relevant authorities / approval bodies applicable to the course such as CPD, RoSPA or IIRSM. Please don’t hesitate to ask if you have any specific standard / approval requirements.
Q: Will I get a certificate?
All courses come with a certificate of achievement in recognition of completing the course successfully. A digital record is stored with each learner’s history and certificates are available for access and download.
Q: What if I fail my course?
If you do not achieve the pass rate for the course then you will be given the opportunity to review the training content and attempt the assessment again. With some of the video based courses, the course may be locked on a third failed attempt, subject to a review by your organisation administrator of a member of the RealSense support team.
